End Stage Heart Disease: Medication Use and Deprescribing Principles in End-of-Life Care
Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 3:00pm ET
Heart disease is common in the hospice population, both as a primary hospice diagnosis and as a comorbid condition. Symptom and disease management for patients with heart disease presents a unique challenge. Complex pharmacotherapy regimens are often present. This session discusses effective use of medications, assessment and monitoring, and the need to plan for deprescribing to provide individualized care for each patient.
Estimates by the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. suggest that between 725,000 to 1 million people in the United States have a stoma. As a result, regardless of what nursing field you work in, you will likely provide care for an ostomate. Successful care of a stoma includes having a basic understanding of ostomy care and being able to address common complications. This session will review the fundamentals of stoma care, including stoma assessment, appliance selection, and strategies to manage complications.
